IMI is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Nadia Thalmann as Director of IMI, with effect from August 1, 2009.
Prof Thalmann has made outstanding contributions for her research. For more than 25 years, she has pioneered Interactive Digital Media (IDM) research particularly in the area of virtual humanity, working in domains such as mixed reality, personality and emotion simulation in robotics, 3D medical simulation, cultural heritage, virtual humans, 3D multimedia application and simulation of hair and clothes.
Receiving several artistic and science awards for her dedication, more recently she has obtained the First Prize Award at the Conference Eurographics'2009 in München. Professor Thalmann is an academic scholar and scientist who found herself leap from humanities to science and on to IDM, seamlessly combining her knowledge, collaborating with scientists in art and science to produce inter-disciplinary innovative technologies.
Prior to joining NTU, Prof Thalmann founded MiraLab since 1989, one of the most prestigious interdisciplinary research institutes back home in Geneva. Professor Thalmann hopes to carry this spirit here onto the NTU campus.
“IDM is a potpourri of every artistic and scientific discipline, and visualisation is a key part of it.” She once said at an interview with @NTU in June last year.
Together with the rest of IMI, she will be the driving force to new things for NTU-IDM.
